Captain Raynold “Rennie” Mitchell
It is with deep regrets that we announce the passing of our father, grandfather, brother, and uncle, Captain Raynold “Rennie” Mitchell who transitioned to eternity on Wednesday May 5, 2021 in Arlington Virginia USA. He was the Chief Executive Officer of Liberty Airlines, Chairman of Liberty Aviation Group, and Chief Executive Officer of Mitchell Business Center (MBC). He was also former Deputy Managing Director of the Roberts International Airport (RIA), and former Member of the Board of Directors of the Liberia Civil Aviation Authority. One of Liberia’s finest, he was a highly trained international aviation expert with excellent record of service as Airline Captain and Chief Pilot for Air Liberia, and US Airways in the United States, Liberia, and Nigeria. A devoted Christian, he was a prominent figure in the Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church of Liberia where he served as former Member of the Board of Directors of the S. Trowen Nagbe United Methodist Church in Sinkor Monrovia, Liberia. Other affiliations: Member, Board of Directors, St Friskies Alumni Association; Chairperson Board of Directors, LIONS Club, Congo Town; Chief Patron, Grand Int’l Birthday Club. He is survived by his beloved Ms. Annette Kiawu; children; Ronald A. Mitchell, Raynold Mitchell Jr., Robert Mitchell, Marennie Mitchell, and 6 grandchildren.
He is also survived by siblings; Amanda Mitchell Sulie(James), Comfort A. Mitchell, Sarah Mitchell King (Eku), Yvonne Parchment (Neville), Alfred Mitchell, Oretha Mitchell Yarzieh (Charles), Emma Mitchell Lloyd (Edwin), Selena Mitchell Dennis (Wilmot), Marjorie Mitchell, and Samuel A. Mitchell, Jr. (Velma). He was predeceased by his siblings, John Payne Mitchell, Ophelia Mitchell, Shirley Ann Mitchell Toure, Thomas Payne Mitchell, Marsha Leslie, Rose Mitchell Benson, Agnes Mitchell, and Ellen Mitchell. He was the youngest son of the late Hon. Samuel A. Mitchell, and Evelyn Mitchell.
For the loving support he gave to his family, his years of service to his country, devoted leadership given his church, and with his sense of discipline, and gentle smile, he will be dearly missed, and forever remembered.
